So I tried to apply this patch on my not-quite-standard system and it keeps complaining about a lack of free space.

There's no MS Knowledge Base article on this yet, so hopefully publishing it here will help someone else out with an IDE CD Drive that happens to be in the master position on the primary IDE bus.

Microsoft is expecting that the master IDE in the first position on the 0 bus is the place where Windows is installed. In my case, they're mistaken. My cable is too short (at the moment), so either I have my HD and CD on the primary bus configured backwards, or I have no CD drive.

I don't think the rollup is THAT necessary at this point, so I'm gonna pass on it for now. I have all of the other hotfixes installed, naturally.

For the propellor heads and search engines: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 running on a generic box, 800mhz front side bus, 160gb ATA100, generic (sony engine) 52x IDE CD. And an 18 inch IDE cable (bleah).

I might criticize M$ for releasing this without the ability to specify the correct Windows installation or, heck, checking boot.ini to find it instead of assuming its location based on hardware. But who am I to talk about releasing completely bug free software. :-)
