I figured out yesterday that Granite is cheaper to do than tile.

Tiling a kitchen takes two days of labor. Granite is more expensive materials-wise, but takes a half-day. Even with undocumented labor, granite is cheaper.

Maybe that's why every new house I've evaluated in the last few years has had Granite or Corian. Tile is yesterday's news.

I wonder if tile will one day be considered an amenity because of this phenomenon?

Nah. It's not like lat-and-plaster is considered an amenity.
