I'm a couple weeks late on this, but everyone loves a meme that keeps on meeming, and this one is on my favorite topic of all, so I'm excited about participating.

Plus the fellow that tagged me, Bob of BobMeetsWorld fame, is quickly becoming a good friend of mine, so I feel obliged to continue the "pay it forward" routine on his behalf. I also have learned quite a bit about the bloggers that have participated in this, and I have found it fascinating to learn a few tidbits about their personal histories.

If you'd like to participate in this Me-Meme, and yet I haven't tagged you, leave me a comment on this post. I'll be delighted to include you in the master list (below). After checking out your own story, of course.

Face Behind the Blog

I already have quite a bit about me published on my about page, but when I wrote that page six months back it was mostly to establish my credibility on the subjects I blog about. It was also to [hopefully] explain to casual readers that the "really smart guy" moniker is designed to be cheeky, a self-aggrandizing statement that simultaneously pokes fun at the whole idea of self promotion.

So how about a few personal history notes? I'll shoot for five...

  1. I left home about a month before my 16th birthday. I realize that in some parts of the world, that's not so impressive a statement, but in the United States, it's quite commonplace for children to not truly become independent of their parents until after their university education, which ends for most students at 22 if they do everything right. Often ties are not completely cut until marriage. There were some problems at home. I mooched off of friends, rented closets and/or couches, slept in my car quite a few times, rented rooms, etc. This continued until I was 22 when steadily increasing levels of dependable housing (resulting from the jumps I made in earning power) culminated in the purchase of my first home at age 22.

  2. I graduated at the same time, receiving my secondary school completion paperwork on my sixteenth birthday, two years ahead of schedule. It would've been better to stay and study advanced placement courses or start college early (and, indeed, I wanted to), but I was busy waiting tables. A guy's got eat and pay for a place to rest his head. Even if it's a Toyota. :-)

  3. I almost got married once. We were really compatible on many levels, but in the end, I think that we were just too young. It was absolutely breathtakingly perfect... until we moved in together. I don't remember fighting before I put the keys to our apartment on my key chain; I don't remember not fighting afterwards. I nonetheless remember her fondly.

  4. I need to include a photo. Here's one of my cousin (right) and I (left) taken on New Year's Eve this past year. We're on a train. If we look extraordinarily happy, well, that's because we are. Good vodka tends to encourage that!Johnny and Corban

  5. I work out more than you. This past week was a lazy week, for instance, and I worked out for -- (counting) -- only 12-13 hours. Most weeks top 20 hours. About half is basketball, 35% is lifting weights, and 15% is everything else, like skating, swimming, running, or tossing a ball/frisbee.

  6. I am currently single. I'm a little cynical about relationships in general. Friends say that I come across as a player, which is a bit ironic, because if I found someone eerily compelling and complementary, I drop the single life in a heartbeat. Well, maybe 10 heartbeats, but that's just because of the wariness. But that's a story for another blog...

Now for the "pay it forward" aspect. I'd like to see the same info from Jason Spence, Ryan Shamus, Ashley Sinatra, and Dave Saraiva.

1st thing to do:
Post a short paragraph or series of photos of yourself showing the face behind your blog. If you already show a photo on your blog, then make your post more interesting by choosing a photo that’s not currently online.

2nd thing:

Include links to others that have participated. Here are the ones that have participated so far:

Thank you very much for the link love. Its great to see the list still alive and that it has traveled so far.

I recently moved from www.petersen-inc.dk to www.thebetanews.com and changed name from Petersen Inc (which I use as a private blog now) to The Beta News.

Could I persuade you to do me a favour? Change the name from Petersen Inc to The Beta News and the link to: http://www.thebetanews.com/the-face-behind-the-blog/

Thank you very much :-)
